It’s the moment we have all been waiting for, the Steelers beat Tom Brady and the Patriots! It was only the second loss for New England at Heinz Field and the first time in seven years. It was a masterful performance by Ben Roethlisberger, who stole Tom Brady’s script for success. He completed 36 for 50, racking up 365 yards against the Patriots.
The Steelers had their foot on the gas all day long. They whacked the Patriots in yards, 427-213, in first downs, 29-19, and in third-down conversions 10-3! They dominated the time of possession almost two to one! The receivers are getting better every week; NINE receivers caught passes, with Heath Miller leading the way with 85 yards and several HUGE catches. Antonio Brown caught NINE passes, doing his Hines Ward impersonation!
Lost in the glow of Ben’s performance was the awesome work of the defense. After hearing and reading all week about being dominated by the Patriots, the defense kept Brady in check all day long and his final numbers were very un-Brady like. The defense, despite missing Silverback, James Farrior and losing LaMarr Woodley, played a great game, keeping Brady off balance all day long.
The Patriots, who have been moving the ball at will against opponents, never mustered a run longer than nine yards. They were held in check on the running game, gaining only 43 yards. The defense was so stifling the Pats only managed 50 offensive plays. Stevenson Sylvester is shaping up to be the next great Steeler linebacker and made some very aggressive plays. Brett Kiesel made the game clinching play when he knocked the ball loose from Brady, which was almost gobbled up by Ziggy Hood, who left a 12 inch divot in the back of the end zone.
The pass defense can finally be taken seriously. The league’s No. 1 pass defense held AFC passing leader, Tom Brady, to 8 of 13 in the first half and 198 yards total, his lowest of the season by 91 yards. That number would have been much worse if LaMarr stayed in the game; he was on a ferocious tear. CB Ike Taylor had another big game, he held NFL receiving leader Wes Welker to six catches for 39 yards. Just when you thought Troy Polamalu was going to have a quiet day, he sealed the victory by crashing into Brady’s fumble and knocking it through the end zone.
I hate Boston and this was just long overdue! BTW, I think I spotted the ghost of Ochocinco!
BEER WE GO STEELERS, BEER WE GO!
My “GAME BEER” goes to: I tried to be creative on this and not give it to the best stats or the obvious choice but in this case it was a no doubter; BIG BEN wins again. He is easily an elite QB and he proved it again Sunday. His numbers were awesome and he played like the gun fighter he is!
Where I watched the game: Started at my golf club on Long Island, Great Rock, drinking Celtic Ale made by Long Ireland Brewing and eating Crab Cake Sandwiches. KGB and I went back to her place to finish it out!
My thoughts on Next Week: No rest for the Steelers! This week it is the Rat-Birds and the Steelers need redemption. Look for the usual Steeler-Raven death match with the Steelers winning on a late field goal! Seriously, we need to whip some Raven ass!

You got lucky, and you know it. All I hear is a bunch of whining.

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you write is awesome and to the point. Nevertheless just imagine if you added some great images or videos to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and video clips, this blog could definitely be one of the greatest in its niche. Awesome blog!

I am SO excited for this game. I think Tom Brady is gonna get after it! A lot of hatred comes his way but I disagree with the haters. He’s an amazing quarterback. Even the name “Tom Brady” is stereotypical of a quarterback lol. The only QB with a better name is Colt McCoy. Anyway, This is going to be a really great game and I am pumped for the rematch. Good post. 🙂
